TOM MESSNER

When did government become the grantor and recognizer of marriages?
This whole problem is solved by leaving marriage in the hands of religions and sea captains, the way it was intended. Marriage contracts then would be written by attorneys in the manner of every other kind of contract setting forth stipulations and protections if broken or dissolved.
In that way, same-sex marriage, opposite-sex marriage, polygamy need only find a religion, a cruise line and a barrister to tie the knot or knots as the case may be.
